For years, I used an old Scantron machine that my department head had in his office. For that, you needed proprietary answer sheets (costly). And a pencil (persnickety). And access to the scanner (inconvenient). And the scanner would need regular maintenance and replacement ink cartridges.
Enter ZipGrade. I first heard about it at lunch one day, and it sounded too good to be true. I immediately downloaded it, put it through its paces, and determined that it was everything I wanted and more. Its fast, give incredibly helpful test stats, and syncs to the cloud so you can use the website for even more features.
One of my favorite features is that you can change your answer key on the fly. Even if youve already scanned some tests, any changes to the answer key are instantly reflected in those tests. Awesome.
And if a kid crosses out an answer and chooses another one, I can fix that right on their test, so the app wont get "confused."
So many great features, but the best thing so far is the customer support. I have been a beta tester for over 6 months, and whenever Ive had an issue, I got a response within an hour. And recently, I had an issue that I reported in the morning, and by the end of the day, an update was released to the App Store, fixing the problem.
Best app Ive ever purchased.
BTW, when younger teachers complain about the "high" price of the app, I tell them that I paid $300 for MS Word back in 1992. A little perspective shuts them up pretty quickly. This app is incredibly inexpensive, by any measure.
